Kindergarten 

 

August

Kindergarten students will be introduced to the parts of the computer.  They will also learn how to open and close programs by "double clicking" a mouse and using the "exit" icon.  Additionally they will explore various reading games like "The Letter Machine" and "3 Letter Carnival" as well as drawing and painting programs.

September

The Kindergarten students will learn how to use the keyboard and will be practicing typing their names.  The children will also learn how to use the "shift" key in order to change letter case.  They will be clicking and dragging graphics onto papers and will be bringing home their completed work.  Keep an eye out and praise them for the great job!

 

 

October

The students will be completing a new project each week.  Some of the projects they will complete in October are:

1) Dragging graphics onto a page that symbolize the members of their families.

2) "Shopping" for graphics that begin with the letter "S."

3) Using computer drawing tools to complete a self portrait.

4) Using MS Powerpoint to match colors with words and viewing a slide show.

In addition, the kindergarten students will be introduced to the Internet.

November

The students will be introduced to many exciting Internet sites including Starfall Reading (a great site for teaching your child to read!).

The kindergarteners will also complete a project on beginning sounds.

Finally, the kids will complete a reading exercise on the "Silly Turkey" and print a paper to bring home.

The students will be introduced to the "Delete" key.

 

December

The kindergarteners will count "Skittles" and complete a color-coded check list accessing Microsoft PowerPoint.

Also using PowerPoint, the students will construct a snowman & decorate a Christmas tree.  Once completed, the students will view a slide show of their finished work.

The students will enjoy the book "The Bear Snores on" and complete and print Christmas cards.

January

The kindergarteners will use the program "Kidspiration" to complete short stories.

The kids will be introduced to the multimedia program for children "Kidpix."

The kids will use the "spacebar" and the arrow keys in many activities as well as on the Internet.

Students will enjoy the rhyming book, "Pickle Things."  They will then complete a rhyming activity on the computer.

February

  Students will be:

 1) Completing a Valentine's Day Coupon Book.  The skills of cutting and pasting are used.

2) Using the program "Kidspiration,"  the kindergarteners will complete and create pattern sequences.

3)  Copying sentences, using the shift keys, spacebar, and period.

March

The Students will be:

 1) Introduced to the educational program "Education City."

2) Create stories using the multimedia program "Kidspiration."

3) Practice shrinking and stretching graphics.

4) Utilize the online reading website "Starfall Reading."
